In the article, Peters argues that it was a good decision of the Dutch Senate to reject a proposal to increase the residence requirement for naturalisation from five to seven years. Analyses of Dutch administrative data show that a delayed trajectory into citizenship erodes the added benefit the legal status transition can have for the integration of immigrants into the labor market.
